One of the greatest stumbling blocks in the way of self-acceptance and inner confidence is the stifling notion that we must be solid fixtures when we are by nature flowing beings. I see a contrast between:
• Demanding one be a perfectly static statue versus realizing and accepting that we are evolving organic systems of change and transition.
• Demanding we have perfect knowledge versus humbly holding tentative opinions pending new or further evidence and insight.
• Demanding we always behave infallibly versus constantly growing in wisdom via trial and error and constantly improving our understanding and Aristotelian character skills.
• Demanding one be labeled with an ideology or name tag to be worn permanently with unquestioning allegiance, as if we’re cans of food to be orderly shelved in categories versus realizing we are flowing systems of stardust and biology subject to continuous change and transition; being subject to factors such as our likely limited mammalian perceptions, personality type, genetic proclivities, environmental influences, and our upbringing; as well as potential errors in cognition, our limited access to and absorption of all information and points of view, and our lack of having all possible experiences.
This blog covers my personal journey as a rational science-minded man coming out of a decade of atheistic skepticism and cynicism; and trying to re-establish my former Christian life-stance from the ground up without ignoring my 21st century worldview. I thus present a science friendly scholarly lens of interpretation that in my view can restore the ancient biblical texts as still useful for the modern man in North America.
